MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- LSU's Cassie Weil qualified for her second NCAA Championships at the Zone ‘D’ Diving Regional hosted by the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Weil is the fourth Lady Tiger to qualify for NCAA Championships and joins Amber Carter, Kara Kopcso and Caley Oquist. Megan Cox, Taryn MacKenzie, Danielle Stirrat and Leah Troskot will also join the four automatic qualifiers for NCAA’s March 20-22 in Minneapolis, Minn.
“It’s very rewarding for Cassie to make it to her second NCAA championships,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “She put a solid two-list score to make it to NCAA Championships. We’re excited to return to Minneapolis next week.”
Sean McKinney and Alex Bettridge just missed qualifying for NCAA Championships. McKinney finished fourth on one-meter and Bettridge notched three-top six finishes over the course of the qualifier
In the women’s platform final, Bettridge finished fourth with a two-list score of 584. Weil (549.20) and Allie Alter (540.50) followed with sixth and seventh place finishes respectively.
For the men, McKinney finished sixth on platform with a 12-dive total score of 734.20. Senior Kevin Leong finished ninth on platform with a total score of 687.10.
“We had a theme of persistence and resolve for these three days,” Shaffer said. “Alex and Sean gave us the best shot to qualify for every single event. While I’m disappointed that they didn’t qualify, it’s not a reflection of their season.”

Seven men and nine women emerged from Zone D to advance to NCAA Championships.
