Nistrup Honored; Women's Golf Moves into Top 20

BATON ROUGE – LSU freshman golfer Caroline Nistrup was named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Nistrup, the leading freshman in stroke average in the league at 71.22 strokes per round, posted her third top five finish of her inaugural season, losing in a playoff for the championship of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Dragoer, Denmark native posted rounds of 71-69-71 on the par 71 Long Cove layout to rally to tie for the championship at 2-under par 211. Nistrup lost on the first hole of sudden death to the second-ranked Golfstat golfer, Yu Liu of Duke, who made a 20-footer for birdie on the par 4 18th hole.

Nistrup also made a big jump in the Golfstat performance rankings, going to No. 10 in the country after her third top 5 finish of the season.

Nationally, in the latest Golf World/WGCA Poll also announced on Wednesday, the Lady Tigers have moved up to 20 from 25 in the voting. USC received all 23 first-place votes and Alabama (5) and Arkansas (7) are in the top 10 from the SEC.

The LSU women’s golf team is next back in action at the University Club in Baton Rouge March 21-23 at the annual 15-team LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Admission is free.
