Notes on the Tigers
LSU is 17-8 on the season after splitting four games last week. The Tigers earned a win over Northwestern State and the series opener against Auburn before dropping the last two on Saturday and Sunday. LSU moved to 15-3 in SEC series openers. The Tigers dropped its first season opening conference series for the first time since 2011, as it was also the first series loss to Auburn since 2005. The Tigers have dropped consecutive games for the first time since dropping the first two to open the season in February. LSU had given up only five home runs through 22 games to opponents, as Northwestern State and Auburn combined for five over the course of the week. LSU has either tied or outhit its opponent in four of the last five games and in seven of the last 10 overall. The Tigers hit three home runs in Saturday’s game, as they have now hit that many in a single contest three times this season, with eight team multi home run contests. A.J. Andrews had seven hits last week in the four games and hit .538 with a double, RBI and four stolen bases. Andrews earned her fourth three-hit game of the season in the series opener against Auburn, as she leads the team with 10 multi-hit contests this year. Andrews leads the team with a .407 batting average and 33 total hits and is on a seven-game hitting streak. Sahvanna Jaquish became the first player this season and first since Tammy Wray last season to hit two home runs in a game in game two against AU, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jaquish has six multi-RBI contests and leads the squad with 24 RBI. Bianka Bell had her 17-game reached base streak end on Friday, but finished the weekend hitting .333 with a home run, double and three RBI along with Kellsi Kloss. Bell and Jaquish are tied for the team lead in homers with six each. Allison Falcon hit her fourth triple of the season during the weekend, as she accounts for half of the team’s total so far this year. Bailey Landry hit .364 with four hits and a stolen base in 11 plate appearances. The LSU pitching staff walked 25 batters, hit four and struck out only 18 over the course of the week. Baylee Corbello earned her sixth consecutive win in the opener to move to 8-2 on the season, but suffered the loss on Sunday after giving up a season-high five runs, three earned, in just two innings of work. Kelsee Selman made three appearances earning one win while giving up just two runs on two hits.
