BATON ROUGE – For the third time this season LSU senior gymnast Sarie Morrison was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week on Tuesday.
Morrison excelled on vault and bars, the two events she competes, at Florida where she won her fifth straight bars title with a 9.95, and she added a 9.90 on vault to help the Tigers post the nation’s fourth-highest road score with a 197.625.
It marked the third consecutive meet in which Morrison has scored a 9.90 or higher in both events, and it was the fifth time she accomplished it in eight meets this season.
The Dallas, Texas, native has six bars titles this season and 26 for her career, extending her school record career total in the event.
Because of her consistency Morrison ranks No. 1 nationally on bars with a 9.935 regional qualifying score (RQS), and she is No. 6 on vault with a 9.920 RQS.
Morrison has earned six SEC weekly honors in her career, including three specialist of the week awards this year.
No. 1 LSU (7-3, 3-2 SEC) is back in action against Missouri at 7 p.m. CT Friday inside the Maravich Center.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and fans are encouraged to arrive early because the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a set of LSU gymnastics trading cards. There will also be a post-meet autograph session with the team.
Tickets are available for purchase online at www.LSUtix.net, by phone at 225-578-2184 or in person at the LSU Ticket Office on the first floor of the LSU Athletic Administration Building.
