BATON ROUGE – There is a new No. 1 team in women’s collegiate gymnastics, and it is LSU. The Tigers claimed the top spot with a 197.470 regional qualifying score (RQS) in the first edition of the RQS rankings released Monday by GymInfo.

Until now the national rankings had been determined by a team’s season average, but starting this week and continuing for the rest of the season the rankings will be determined by a team’s RQS.

The RQS is ascertained by taking a team’s top six scores (three of which must be from road/neutral meets), dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five scores.

In LSU’s case, the Tigers’ top six scores include a 197.875 at the Metroplex Challenge, 197.650 at Oklahoma, 197.650 versus Alabama, 197.625 at Florida, 197.225 at Arkansas and a 197.200 versus Centenary.

The season-high and school record 197.875 was dropped, and the remaining five scores were averaged to give LSU a 197.470 regional qualifying score.

It is the highest RQS in school history, surpassing the previous best of 197.400 in the final rankings of the 2004 season.

LSU was able to jump to No. 1 in the RQS standings because the Tigers have performed so consistently throughout the season with four of the team’s top scores coming on the road.

LSU’s body of work has been the best to date as the Tigers hold the nation’s second, third and fourth-highest road scores of the season with a 197.875 at Metroplex, 197.650 at Oklahoma and 197.625 at Florida, respectively.

Oklahoma checked in at No. 2 with a 197.405 RQS, while Florida is ranked No. 3 with a 197.365 RQS.

In the event rankings, LSU took over the No. 1 spot on vault and floor with a 49.500 and 49.460 RQS, respectively. The Tigers are No. 3 on beam at 49.240 and No. 5 on bars at 49.290.

In the individual rankings, several Tigers sit atop the rankings. Junior Rheagan Courville is the nation’s No. 1 all-arounder with a 39.595 RQS, senior Sarie Morrison is No. 1 on bars with a 9.935 RQS and junior Jessie Jordan is No. 1 on beam with a 9.915 RQS.

Junior Lloimincia Hall is No. 2 nationally on floor with a 9.945 RQS, and Courville is right behind Jordan at No. 2 on beam with a 9.90 mark.

A nation-leading four Tigers are ranked in the Top 25 on vault as Courville is fifth at 9.925, Morrison is sixth at 9.920, Jordan is 16th at 9.890 and freshman Ashleigh Gnat is 20th at 9.885.

Courville ranks 10th on bars with a 9.885 RQS, and junior Britney Ranzy is 18th at 9.865.

On floor, Courville is seventh at 9.930, and sophomore Jessica Savona is 14th with a 9.885 RQS.

Jordan is just outside the Top 5 in the all-around at No. 6 with a 39.465 RQS.

After a four-meet road swing No. 1 LSU (7-3, 3-2 SEC) returns to the Maravich Center for the first time in nearly a month when the Tigers take on Missouri at 7 p.m. CT on Friday.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early because the first 1,000 in attendance will receive a set of LSU gymnastics trading cards. There will also be a post-meet autograph session with the Tigers.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth ages 3-12, and tickets are available for purchase by logging on to www.LSUtix.net, calling the LSU Ticket Office at 225-578-2184 or by visiting the ticket office on the first floor of the LSU Athletics Administration Building.
