BATON ROUGE – The No. 58 LSU women’s tennis team takes on No. 72 Northwestern State at noon CST and McNeese State at 5 p.m. CST on Sunday for their second double header of the season.
In its last outing, LSU defeated South Florida 4-3 as freshman Skylar Holloway captured a thrilling three-setter to secure the victory for the Lady Tigers. With this win, LSU moved to 5-2 on the season. Northwestern State is 2-1 on the season and McNeese State is 2-1 on the season.
“(Sunday) is going to be a really tough day,” said LSU head coach Julia Sell. “We’re going to have two unbelievable matches. We need to rest up and prepare for that.”
The Lady Tigers lead the series record with Northwestern State 18-1 after defeating the Lady Demons 4-3 during their last meeting on Jan. 26, 2013.
“We had a battle with Northwestern State last year,” said Sell. “They are ranked for the first time in a while, and rightfully so. They've got three new faces. They are a lot like us. They are just much better this year. They've already shown some good results. They are going to be tough.”
LSU also holds a 2-0 series lead over McNeese State after topping the Cowgirls 6-1 on Feb. 16, 2013.
“In the afternoon we play McNeese State,” said Sell. “We played some of their girls in the fall, and they are excellent.”
