BATON ROUGE – LSU senior gymnast Sarie Morrison was named Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week while Ashleigh Gnat earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

Morrison and Gnat played integral parts in third-ranked LSU’s victories at No. 11 Arkansas last Friday and No. 2 Oklahoma on Sunday.

LSU’s 197.225 is the first 197 score in a dual meet at Arkansas in school history. The Tigers’ 197.650 at Oklahoma ranks as the highest road score in the nation, and it tied a season high for LSU.

Morrison won titles in three of the four events she competed, taking home the bars title at Arkansas and the vault and bars crowns at Oklahoma.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Morrison tallied a 9.925 on bars in both meets to win her third and fourth bars titles of the season, and she posted a season-high 9.975 on vault to win the event at Oklahoma and lead LSU to the nation’s highest vault total with a 49.600, a score that ties as the third-best in school history.

Gnat earned SEC Freshman of the Week after two outstanding performances over the weekend.

The Lake Mary, Fla., native tallied the first two individual titles of her young career, winning the vault title at Arkansas with a season-high tying 9.90 and the beam title at Oklahoma with a season-best 9.90.

Gnat’s beam performance at Oklahoma helped LSU pull off the upset as the Tigers earned a season-high 49.325 on the event in the final rotation to seal the win against the Sooners.

In addition to winning the vault title at Arkansas, Gnat also tied her season high on floor with a 9.875.

The award is the second of the season for Morrison and the fifth SEC weekly honor of her career. Morrison earned SEC Specialist of the Week after the season opener against Centenary on Jan. 10.

It is the first SEC award for Gnat.
