BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU women’s basketball forward Theresa Plaisance garnered SEC Player of the Week honors as announced Monday by the league office. It’s her first career SEC weekly award.
Plaisance exploded for 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game sparked by two double-doubles during LSU’s victories over Auburn and Ole Miss last week. She buried 16-of-31 from the floor highlighted by a season’s best 10 field goals during the Ole Miss game. The only other time Plaisance has recorded consecutive double-doubles was during LSU’s wins over No. 7 Kentucky and Alabama last season.
Plaisance pumped in 19 points to match her season-high against Auburn before she dropped in a season’s best 23 points at Ole Miss. The New Orleans native has garnered 10-plus in 10 straight games, her longest streak since a 31-game run last season. Her 11 rebounds during the Auburn game allowed Plaisance to join elite company and become the 18th player in program history to amass 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
The Lady Tigers (16-4, 5-2 SEC) were one of three SEC squads to post a 2-0 week and moved up one spot to No. 14 in this week’s edition of the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
LSU wraps up a stretch of three consecutive Thursday home games and welcomes Mississippi State to the Maravich Center. Tip time is on-tap for 7 p.m., and the game will be carried live by Cox Sports Television [CST].
