Gymnastics Third in Nation; Courville No. 1

BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team checked in at No. 3 with a 197.083 season average in the latest edition of the GymInfo Top 25, and junior Rheagan Courville moved back to No. 1 in the all-around standings released Monday.

LSU (2-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) posted a 197.175 in a victory against Auburn on Saturday, marking the fourth straight score of 197 or higher at home for the Tigers.

Courville, who was ranked No. 1 in the all-around after the first week of competition, moved back to the top spot with a 39.525 average after sitting at No. 2 in the rankings last week.

In the event standings, LSU is No. 3 on vault with a 49.417 average, No. 7 on bars with a 49.133 average, No. 3 on beam at 49.167 and No. 5 on floor at 49.367.

Courville earned the No. 1 spot in the standings after she tallied a 39.600 against Auburn to win the all-around for the third time in as many meets.

Jessie Jordan and Kaleigh Dickson joined Courville in the all-around Top 10 as both Jordan and Dickson are tied for seventh with a 39.425 average.

It is the first time LSU has had three gymnasts ranked in the Top 25 in the all-around since April 9, 2007 when Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was No. 1, Kelly Phelan was No. 23 and Nicki Butler was No. 25.

In the individual vault standings, Sarie Morrison is No. 4 with a 9.917 average, Courville is No. 16 with a 9.892 average and Britney Ranzy is 25th with a 9.875 average.

Morrison is No. 8 on bars with a 9.883 average, and Courville is No. 13 at 9.875.

Jordan is fifth on beam with a 9.90 average, and Courville is ranked 10th with a 9.883 average.

LSU is tied with UCLA with four gymnasts in the Top 25 of the floor standings. Dickson is No. 13 with a 9.90, Jessica Savona is 17th with a 9.892 average, and Lloimincia Hall and Courville are tied at 24th with a 9.875 average.

LSU’s opponent this week, Alabama, is ranked seventh nationally. The Tigers and Crimson Tide will square off in a Top 10 showdown at 7 p.m. CT Friday inside the Maravich Center.
