TAMPA, Fla. – After a spirited practice on day three in Tampa, members of the LSU football team took a trip to Tampa General Hospital to visit with children on Saturday.

The players handed out LSU Outback Bowl t-shirts, pennants and wristbands to children and parents throughout the hospital.

“It says a lot about LSU to reach out and have a chance to touch these kids’ lives and get out in the community,” junior wide receiver Jarvis Landry said. “It’s a humbling experience also.”

Players went room to room visiting with children and their families, passing out t-shirts and encouraging the patients to get better and keep fighting to return to health.

“A lot of people say these kids are so excited to see us and they get so much out of the visits, but really I think we get more out of it,” senior linebacker/holder Seth Frugé said. “We learn so much, and it really humbles us. It makes you realize how blessed you are to be doing what we are doing. The fact we bring them a little happiness by coming over here is a great experience.”

Mary Jane Harrington, community relations manager at Tampa General Hospital, echoed the players’ sentiments.

“It’s really nice that they come visit the patients because the kids really enjoyed it,” she said. “It shows that these guys are balanced kids. They are all out here to play a game and enjoy themselves while they are here, but they also give back to our community.”

The Tigers return to practice Sunday afternoon before taking in an NHL game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers on Sunday night.
