BATON ROUGE – Kelly Quinn, a defensive specialist from The Woodlands, Texas, has indicated her commitment and been accepted for admission to LSU for Fall 2014 as announced Thursday by head coach Fran Flory.
Quinn is the fourth freshmen who will join the Tigers for the 2014 season. Mylan Eugene, Elly Ogle and Regina Tillis each signed with LSU in November.
“Kelly is an amazing passer and an elite defender, and we’re absolutely thrilled to welcome her into the LSU volleyball family,” Flory said. “She has been a difference maker by controlling the first contact for every team she has been a part of, and we expect she will do the same as a Tiger. Kelly possesses great range and will be difficult to score against. She is an extremely fast and dynamic athlete that brings a tenacious competitiveness to the court.”
Quinn’s high school team at The Woodlands recently completed a perfect 45-0 season en route to the 2013 Texas 5A state championship. She earned multiple All-District 14-5A Defensive MVP and All-State accolades during her prep career. For her work in the classroom, Quinn is a four-time District 14-5A All-Academic pick.
Quinn was listed among PrepVolleyball.com’s Frosh 59, Soph 79, Top 50 Juniors and Top 100 Senior Aces. She secured All-USA High School Volleyball Second-Team honors and 2013-14 Under Armour Girls High School All-American Honorable Mention status. Her club team, the Woodlands Wave, earned a third-place finish at the 2011 Junior Nationals.
LSU has earned 190 victories sparked by five 20-win seasons to go along with seven SEC Western Division titles since 2005. The Tigers also are one of 29 programs to appear in at least seven NCAA Tournaments during the last nine seasons.
