TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- On the last day at the Alabama Diving Invite, junior Kevin Leong posted a second place finish with 314.10 points. Zakary Rowton tallied 257.50 points for seventh. Katie Lagarde also posted a season high point total of 143.80 for seventh place.
“Overall I am very happy with the divers and their performance this week,” Graduate assistant coach Eric Sehn said. “They all did some really great things and achieved some great results. We finished off strong and we are excited about what is coming up with championship season.”
At the USA Winter Diving Championships, Cassie Weil completed on the 10-meter platform. She finished with 215.50 point enough for 17th place. In the semifinal, Weil again finished 17th with a cumulative score of 442.35.
In the quarterfinal of the men’s 3-meter, Sean McKinney finished 19th with 332.35 points McKinney moved on to the semifinal where he finished with a cumulative score of 635.40 for 18th place.
“Sean and Cassie had uncharacteristically rough preliminaries,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “They squeaked into the semifinal where they both performed better, but due to the cumulative point scoring their deficits were too great to overcome to reach the finals. This event is more elite than the NCAA Championships hence a top-20 finish is still very respectable.
Day three at the USA Winter Diving Championships will feature Cassie Weil in the women’s 3-meter springboard quarterfinal. If she finishes in the top-18 she will move on to the semifinal held tomorrow night.
