BATON ROUGE – LSU student-athletes recently played host to the “Touring with the Tigers” event for local children in the Big Buddy Program. Local Big Buddy members were welcomed to LSU's campus over a three-day stretch to meet student-athletes and to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be an LSU student-athlete.
Football junior Fehoko Fanaika was with the children throughout each day. He played games with the children and acted as their tour guide for the week.
Day one kicked off with a scavenger hunt led by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Following the scavenger hunt, the children went on a tour of the LSU Football Operations Center.
After enjoying lunch with Mike the Tiger and the cheerleaders, the Big Buddy participants received a tour of Maddox Fieldhouse from gymnasts Michelle Gauthier and Jessie Jordan. During the tour, the children participated in drills on the beam, floor, and trampoline.
The second day of the event started with a tour of the LSU UREC. Also, the children toured the LSU Natural Science Museum. Lastly, the children also visited the swimming and diving team during their practice.
Day three opened up with the participants watching a movie in the Bo Campbell Auditorium. In addition, the children participated in a cooking class on campus.
“I enjoyed spending time with the big buddy children and other student-athletes,” junior wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said. “Hopefully, they learned what a day in the life of a student-athlete is and how they can be us one day.”
