ATHENS, Ga. – The LSU men’s tennis team wrapped up fall play on Sunday with the conclusion of the 2013 Bulldog Scramble hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

“The team played well, especially since it was the third day of matches,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “We won a bunch this weekend and it should help with our confidence and enthusiasm to work hard over the next two months.”

The morning was started with doubles and LSU’s duo of Tam Trinh and Eric Perez began with a 6-2 victory over Furman’s Juan Sheppard and Joel Cook. Chris Simpson and Boris Arias suffered a hard-fought 6-4 loss to No. 2 Ben Wagland and Hernus Pieters of Georgia. To finish off doubles, LSU’s Andrew Korinek and Justin Butsch fell to Georgia’s Garrett Brasseaux and Eric Diaz 6-1.

LSU saw some success with singles as five Tigers emerged with victories. Transfer Korinek dealt a 6-1, 7-6 loss to Vanderbilt’s Kris Yee. Soon after, freshman Butsch defeated Ryan Smith of Vanderbilt 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Trinh also came away with a victory as he took down Furman’s Jacob Behal 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Harrison Kennedy was also victorious in a 6-3, 7-6(3) win over Sheppard from Furman. Sophomore Arias also came away with a victory, taking down Furman's Cook 6-4, 7-6.

No. 29 Simpson suffered a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 loss to Georgia Tech’s Carlos Benito. To finish off the tournament, redshirt freshman Perez suffered a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 loss to Furman’s Ben Horst.

The LSU men’s tennis team is set to kick off the 2014 dual-match season on January 19, 2014, in Houston, Texas, against Rice at noon CT at the George R. Brown Tennis Complex. The Tigers home opener will be on February 7 at 3 p.m. CT against Old Dominion at the Dub.
