BATON ROUGE – Not only has junior defender Alex Arlitt proven herself as a leader of LSU Soccer’s defensive unit while starting each game this season on the back line, but she has also emerged as a leader in the classroom in the wake of her selection to the Capital One Academic All-District VI Team on Thursday afternoon.
This year’s academic all-district teams were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday as LSU prepared for its regular-season finale against No. 23 Texas A&M.
This marks the first time in her collegiate career that Arlitt has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI Team as she is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors for the 2013 season.
A junior from Houston, Texas, Arlitt has been recognized this season while maintaining a sparkling 3.87 cumulative grade-point average while pursuing her degree in accounting. She is also poised to capture a second-straight selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll this season following her first career selection after her sophomore season in 2012.
Arlitt has started all 19 games during the 2013 season while playing as both a center back and left back as she has scored two goals and dished out three assists for seven points on the campaign. She has now scored a total of eight goals and seven assists for 23 points while starting all 61 games of her collegiate career since the 2011 season.
With Arlitt’s selection to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District VI Team, LSU has now received a total of 12 academic all-district award winners from CoSIDA since the 2003 season.
Arlitt has helped the Tigers earn their eighth trip to the SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament in nine seasons under head coach Brian lee. The Tigers will play as the No. 7 seed at this year’s SEC Tournament as they take on No. 10 seed Auburn in the first round on Monday at 4 p.m. CT at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
