TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As the fall season concludes this weekend, six members of the LSU women’s tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to play in the 26th Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by Alabama.

Skylar Holloway, Ariel Morton, Gabrielle Otero, Abigail Owens, Noel Scott and Ella Taylor are slated to compete against players from Middle Tennessee, Northwestern, Clemson and Furman in the initial rounds.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles.  Play will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday with two rounds of doubles and the final round of singles.

In all, players from 17 teams will take part in the two-day tournament.

“This tournament is our last fall event and always has a very strong field,” LSU head coach Julia S. Sell said.  “I always feel that we make the biggest jumps in our game after we come home from a tournament so I am excited to have the team compete one last time against high level opponents.  We will be seeing a lot of players from outside our conference at this event which will only help develop our players further.”

Each singles draw features eight players and each doubles draw contains eight pairs as well.

“We are looking forward to going to our last fall tournament,” senior Ariel Morton said.  “We’ve been working really hard in practice so this is kind of our peak for the fall.  We’ve done really well the past two tournaments, so hopefully that keeps on escalating.”

In the Meritt Emery draw, Scott will compete against No. 111 Veronica Corning from Northwestern while the Weyli Chang draw will feature Taylor and Ansley Speaks of Furman.

In the Jenny Ketchum draw, Otero will play Katherine Oudin of Furman.  The Rebecca Baum draw will pit Owens against Jessy Rompies from Clemson.

Morton will play Clemson’s Annie Lynn Miao in the Ashley Bentley draw and Holloway will take on Carola Pederzani from Clemson in the Meri Muller draw.

The tournament will open with doubles action as Morton and Taylor face off against Lissie Barnett and Corning of Northwestern in the Robin Stephenson draw at 9 a.m.

In the Melissa Day draw, Otero and Holloway will pair up against Jillian Rooney and Manon Peri of Northwestern.

Scott and Owens will square off against Nayara Moraes and Irina Constantinide of Middle Tennessee in the Bianca Svensson draw.
