AUBURN, Ala. – The LSU women's tennis team ended its run Saturday at the ITA Southern Regional Championships hosted by Auburn.
The Ariel Morton and Ella Taylor pair kicked off the day with an 8-5 victory in the second round of doubles, defeating Ole Miss’ second-seeded Marija Milutinovic and Caroline Rhode-Moe. The duo competed in the quarterfinal round against Mary Anne Daines and Natalia Maynetto of Alabama but fell 8-6.
Junior transfer Noel Scott fought hard through the third round of main draw singles, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-4 to Auburn's top-seeded Pleun Burgmans.
Newcomer Skylar Holloway battled through the second round of consolation singles but faced a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) loss to Tulane's Jacqui Katz.
Due to rain delays, the consolation rounds of doubles will not be played.
"I am really proud of everyone today for their exemplary effort in their matches," LSU head coach Julia S. Sell said. "Ella (Taylor) and Ariel (Morton) picked up a very good win in doubles and really showed how much they have improved in a year's time. I was impressed by their attitude and how well they worked together as a team."
The Lady Tigers will face their next competition in two weeks at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
