BATON ROUGE – LSU men’s basketball players Jarell Martin and Johnny O'Bryant III have been named to the Top 100 players list for the 2013-14 season by CBSsports.com in a list combined by “College Basketball Insider” Gary Parrish.
Martin has come in at No. 48 on the list while JOB III, who was also named to the media’s pre-season All-SEC First Team announced earlier this week, is at No. 84.
Parrish wrote in his preface to the list: “This is about college basketball players -- not pro prospects.
“In other words … the CBSSports.com Top 100! -- has nothing to do with what we think these prospects might be in the NBA, and it should not be interpreted that way. This is about these players at this level this season, and let me explain how we compiled the list. I, along with my colleagues Jeff Borzello and Matt Norlander, exchanged emails for more than a week. We basically sent each other lists of 10 players at a time. A player had to be on at least two lists before he could be included. So we established a top seven after Round 1, a top 13 after Round 2, a top 17 after Round 3 … so on and so forth … We finally settled on a top 97, and then we each picked one player on our own to complete things and assemble this list of the 100 best college basketball players.”
Of Martin, Norlander wrote: “Martin is a five-star guy out of Baton Rouge that Johnny Jones was able to keep local. He's one of those ‘oozing potential’ players.”
O’Bryant III got these comments from Norlander: “LSU's probably making the NCAAs this year and O'Bryant will lead the charge. Big man put up 14 points and nine rebounds per game last season, basically playing in the shadows.”
LSU will play a free to the public exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 6, against Xavier of New Orleans at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers open the season on Nov. 12 at UMass in the ESPN Tipoff Marathon. LSU’s regular season home opener is Nov. 16 against Northwestern State. Season tickets for the 2013-14 season remain on sale beginning at just $100 at www.LSUtix.net or at the LSU Athletics Ticket Office.
