Nominee for SEC Offensive Player & Freshman of the Week

Briana Holman, MB, 6-1, Fr., DeSoto, Texas
Holman fueled LSU to three wins over a five-day span, the first SEC team to pick up three league wins in the same week. Over her three rotations, Holman was solid in all facets of the game. She banged home 3.83 kills per set on a .417 hitting percentage and posted 1.50 blocks per set to maintain her hold on the SEC’s top spot. Holman led the charge as LSU erased a 2-0 deficit for the third team on the season at Texas A&M. Her 18 kills was her second highest output of the season, while her seven blocks played a key role to holding A&M to a .103 hitting clip for the final three frames. The last LSU team to erase three two-set deficits in the same season was in 1985. Holman provided 15 and 13 kills in wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State. She has buried 10-plus kills in 13 of her last 14 outings.

Notes on the Tigers
LSU snapped its season’s long two-match losing skid with a perfect week that featured wins over Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The three victories enabled the Tigers to improve to 13-3 overall and 3-1 in SEC play in addition to moving up into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings. LSU has overcome three 2-0 deficits this season, most recently last Wednesday at Texas A&M in-front of an ESPNU national television audience. The last LSU team to collect three five-set victories from down two sets was in 1985. Malorie Pardo set the Tigers to 14.17 kills per set on a .277 hitting percentage for the week. She became the fifth player in program history to amass over 3,000 assists during the Mississippi State match. Briana Holman, the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week, blasted 3.83 kills per set on a .417 hitting clip over her three rotations. She pounded home 18 kills, her second-highest output of the season, during the victory over Texas A&M. She also provided 1.50 blocks per set to maintain the SEC’s top spot in that category. Desiree Elliott posted 2.58 kills, 1.33 digs and 0.58 blocks per set in her return to the middle blocker position. She has buried 10-plus kills in two of her last three outings. LSU’s outside attack was sparked by Helen Boyle, Cati Leak and Katie Lindelow who each posted over two kills per set for the week. Lindelow posted her fifth double-double of the season, 12 kills and 12 digs, versus Mississippi State. Leak’s 15 kills against Ole Miss was her highest total since the Rice match on Sept. 7. LSU’s defense was stellar as the Tigers limited their opponents to a .162 hitting ratio over the week. Haley Smith led the back row and corralled a team-leading 4.67 digs per set. She also extended her streak to 11 straight matches with 10-plus digs from the libero spot. LSU travels to face Auburn [Friday – 7:30 p.m.] and Alabama [Sunday – 1:30 p.m.] over the weekend. The Auburn match will be televised by Fox Sports Network and SportSouth.
