TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The LSU doubles pair of Chris Simpson and Boris Arias fell a little bit short in capturing the doubles title at the ITA Southern Regional as they suffered an 8-5 loss on the final day of the tournament at the UA Varsity Courts in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
“We really never got anything going today,” assistant coach Danny Bryan said. “Ole Miss did a good job of keeping us off balance.”
After making it through the first five rounds, the Tigers duo squared off against William Kallberg and Stefan Lindmark of Ole Miss on Monday.
The championship match started off close, but Ole Miss quickly took a 3-1 lead. Simpson and Arias battled back to trim the Rebels lead to 4-3. Despite the Tigers best efforts, Kallberg and Lindmark pulled away to a 7-4 lead and eventually took the match 8-5.
“Overall, it was a good accomplishment to reach the final,” Bryan said. “We are looking forward to getting back home and getting a few things fixed before heading to Athens, Ga., to close out the fall.”
Next up for the LSU men’s tennis team is the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga., at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex starting on Friday, Nov. 8. The tournament will last for three days and will wrap up on Sunday, Nov. 10.
