BATON ROUGE -- Head coach Nikki Caldwell and the LSU women’s basketball team partnered with the Club South Runners to host the Banana Relay 5K race on Sunday afternoon to promote physical fitness.

Relay participants ran 1.6 miles then passed the baton, a banana, to their partner.

“We’re trying to promote healthy living and healthy lifestyles, so why not have your baton be a banana?” Caldwell said.

Caldwell said the race was a great event as the Lady Tigers continue preparations to tipoff its season.

“We had our team and cheerleaders here,” Caldwell said. “It was a great way for us to be outside of the PMAC. It’s nice to see everyone outside today.”

Caldwell also said the event is something she’d like to continue in the future.

Fans will have a chance to meet and greet the teams at the inaugural “Bayou Madness” on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Admission is free.

Season tickets go on sale that morning at http://www.lsutix.net/.
