BATON ROUGE – The Southeastern Lions made a 7-under par opening round stick as they finished up a wire-to-wire lead job Sunday afternoon to win the David Toms Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at The University Club.

The LSU men, who finished in seventh place, had some good individual performances as four golfers finished in the top 15 places in the 69-team field.

Andrew Presley, playing as an individual, moved from 14th to a tie for 3rd with a final round of 69 to finish in a group tied at 1-under 215 (67-79-69). Zach Wright, also entered as an individual contestant, finished in a tie for 10th at 218 (+2) with rounds of 76-69-73.

Curtis Thompson was the top member of the LSU scoring team with a three-day total of 4-over 220, finishing in 15th place with rounds of 72-72-76. Individual Tiger player Myles Lewis moved from 31st to 15th on the final day with a 2-under 70 to finish as well at 4-over 220 (76-74-70).

Southeastern had a 7-shot lead over Houston after Saturday’s first round and expanded that lead to 14 shots after Saturday’s evening round. Sunday, Southeastern did nothing to damage its chances with a 2-over 290 to finish 54-holes at 4-under 860. The Lions were 16 shots better than Iowa State at 12-over 876. The Cyclones shot the best round of the day and the second best of the tournament with a 4-under284 on Sunday.

Kennesaw State was third at 16-over 880, one shot better than Louisiana-Lafayette in fourth (881). It was one-more shot back to Houston at 882 with Coastal Carolina at 892. LSU was seventh at 894 (30-over, 301-288-305), followed by Louisiana Tech in eighth at 896.

Southeastern golfers were 1-2 in the individual competition, with Grady Brame moving past teammate Eamon Bradley for the title. Bradley had shot 71-69 for the first day lead after 36 holes at 140, 4 under with Brame one shot back. Brame would shot 4-under 68 to finish 54-holes at 7-under 209 (72-69-68), while Bradley was in a 4-under 213 (71-69-72).

Tying Presley for third was Scott Fernandez of Iowa State at 1-under 215 (74-71-70) and Fernando Cruz Valle of Louisiana-Lafayette with rounds of 70-71-74. James Ross in sixth at even par 216 (72-73-71) was the only other golfer to finish the race at even or under par in two different sets of weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday.

Louisiana Tech’s top golfer was Victor Lange who moved up 24 places to 25th after a 3-under 60 to finish at 7-over 223 (79-75-69).

LSU has one more stop on its fall golf season, the Isleworth Collegiate Invitationa, Oct. 20-22, in Windemere, Fla.
