ATLANTA – The LSU Lady Tiger tennis team notched four singles victories Sunday at the Atlanta Classic during the final round of competition in Atlanta, Ga.
Junior transfer Noel Scott highlighted the day’s victories with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Georgia Tech’s 67th-ranked Kendal Woodard, following newcomer Gabrielle Otero’s 6-4, 4-1 victory after the Yellow Jackets’ Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer retired from the match due to injury.
After newcomer Skylar Holloway fell 6-0, 6-1 to Georgia Tech’s Rasheeda McAdoo, the Lady Tigers came back with two more wins. Sophomore Ella Taylor took a 6-4, 6-4 score over the Yellow Jackets’ Natasha Prokhnevska, and Abigail Owens defeated Muriel Wacker 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Throughout the tournament, every LSU newcomer tallied a victory in singles, and Otero and Owens won all three of the singles matches they competed in. Otero also scored two doubles victories alongside senior Mary Jeremiah.
“I was very happy to see our continued progress throughout the tournament, and especially today against a Top 25 team,” LSU head coach Julia S. Sell said. “With so many new faces on our team, this event was perfect for us to get in some quality sets in a dual match setting.”
LSU will face its next competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships in Auburn, Ala., beginning Oct. 17.
