BATON ROUGE – LSU continued its preparation for Saturday’s home opener against UAB with a workout indoors at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

LSU will have its final practice of the week on Thursday followed by a walk through on Friday afternoon. Kickoff between LSU and UAB is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. Tickets are still available for the game and they can be purchased online at www.LSUtix.net. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

LSU is 1-0 overall and has won an FBS record 42 straight non-conference games after opening the season with a 37-27 win over 20th-ranked TCU. The win over TCU moved LSU to No. 9 in the AP poll and to No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches poll. The Tigers have been ranked for a school-record 66 straight weeks in the AP poll.

UAB dropped its opener, 34-31, to Troy in overtime. LSU and UAB have met only once, that coming in 2000 when the Blazers shocked the Tigers, 13-10, in Tiger Stadium. LSU hasn’t lost a non-conference home game since that defeat to UAB in what was Nick Saban’s fourth game at LSU.

“We had a quality Wednesday practice,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “I think our football team wants to improve and they understand that’s what has to happen. It’s certainly about Saturday night in Tiger Stadium and being the best team we can be.”

LSU goes into the UAB game coming off an impressive offensive outing in the season-opening win over TCU. In that game, senior quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw for 251 yards and a touchdown. Overall, LSU racked up 448 yards of total offense and 26 first downs against a Horned Frog defense that returned nine starters from a unit that led the Big 12 in defense a year ago.

“I think our offense has a want to compete at a very high level,” Miles said. “I think they enjoyed the success they had last Saturday, and I think certainly it’s something that they want to have happen yet again.”

Miles said after practice on Wednesday that tight end Travis Dickson and linebacker Tahj Jones will be ready to play against UAB after sitting out the season opener with minor injuries. Miles also noted that sophomore safety Corey Thompson practiced on Wednesday and could be ready for Saturday.
