Athletics Creates 'LSU Leadership Academy'
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Athletics Department has partnered with Jeff Janssen of the Janssen Sports Leadership Center and created LSU Leadership Academy for student-athletes that will meet four times during the 2013-14 athletic year.
Janssen Sports Leadership Center develops college and high school student-athletes and coaches into world-class leaders who are committed to a lifetime of service, success and significance.
The Emerging Leaders and Veteran Leaders seminar provided student-athletes with the leadership skills, strategies and insights needed to succeed on the playing field, in the classroom, on campus and in the community. The student-athlete leaders learned how to tackle the tough issues of being a responsible and respected team leader.
There were approximately 50 student-athletes who participated in the Emerging Leaders session and 50 student-athletes who participated in the Veteran Leaders session on Tuesday.
“The leadership seminar seems like it is going to do big things here with the LSU athletes,” volleyball’s Katie Lindelow said. “Everyone is anxious to improve because that means our teams also improve. We had a lot of fun tonight getting to know the athletes from the other teams and working together to learn more about what it takes to be a true leader.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed the Veteran Leaders seminar,” men’s golfer Smylie Kaufman. “The discussions that we had were extremely beneficial in helping to become the best leader I could be for my team. Also, hearing viewpoint from other athletes helped me understand how they are leaders on their team.”
