BATON ROUGE -- LSU Soccer head coach Brian Lee and his staff welcomed 23 players to campus on Tuesday as the squad held its first team meetings in advance of Wednesday’s opening day of training camp as they prepare for their 2013 season opener against in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Friday, Aug. 23, at the LSU Soccer Stadium.

The Tigers will also play host to Nicholls State in an exhibition match on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. CT as part of their preseason training while preparing for their season opener.

LSU’s non-conference slate is highlighted by a home match against the powerful BYU Cougars on Monday, Sept. 2, in a match that will be televised live by Cox Sports Television. The Cougars were one of four teams to earn a No. 1 national seed in the 2013 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament while advancing to the Elite Eight with a 20-2-2 overall record a year ago.

The Tigers will also play host to a pair of SEC teams that earned an NCAA Tournament berth a year ago with matches against Tennessee on Sept. 27 and Missouri on Oct. 11 at the LSU Soccer Stadium.

“Today is one of those days each year that we really look forward to as we get ready for a new season,” Lee said. “We’re excited about the group reporting to campus today. We look forward to getting on the field for the first time tomorrow as we continue our preparation for our season opener in just a couple of weeks. We expect a very competitive training camp with the squad we have this season.”

As part of Tuesday’s reporting, LSU’s freshman class spent the morning moving in with their teammates at West Campus Apartments. The team then convened in the afternoon for a series of preseason meetings with members of the academic center, compliance office and training room.

The Tigers have their first two training sessions of preseason set for Wednesday as they will take a fitness test at 7 a.m. CT before their first full training session in the evening at 6 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Stadium. Along with their first two-a-day on Wednesday, the team will also convene for equipment issue at 9 a.m. and meet with the University’s sports nutrition coordinator Jamie Mascari at 3 p.m.
