BATON ROUGE - The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes honored six LSU student-athletes as part of their academic achievements and community service for June.

Each month, five student-athletes are recognized for their academic improvement, dedication and proven ability. In addition, one student-athlete is chosen through LSU's Student-Athlete Affairs program for their volunteerism and commitment to the community.

June’s student-athletes of the month are John Diarse [Football], Jared Foster [Baseball], Britney Ranzy [Gymnastics], Armand Williams [Football] and Casey Yocom [Baseball]. Alex Boulet [Softball] was selected as the Shaquille O'Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month.

Foster, Ranzy and Yocom are majoring in sport administration, and Diarse is undecided in his course of study. Williams is an interdisciplinary studies major, and Boulet is a mathematics major.

A junior outfielder from Crowley, La., Boulet consistently serves her team as a pinch runner and notched the 2012 NCAA Elite 89 award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the Women’s College World Series. Over her career, she has scored 33 times as a pinch runner which included representing the game-tying or game-winning run four times in 2013. Boulet recently participated in the 2013 Mid-City “Striking Out ALS” Executive Lock-Up event to help raise awareness of neuromuscular diseases for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In addition, she’s garnered two consecutive SEC Honor Roll honors. This is her third time as a CCACSA Student-Athlete of the Month selection, taking home the same honor in both February 2011 and June 2012.

Diarse, a freshman wide receiver from Monroe, La., enrolled at LSU in January and participated in spring football, where he caught a touchdown pass in the first scrimmage and scored two TDs during the second. Following his performance on the Purple team during the National L Club Spring Game, he was awarded the Newcomer Most Improved award. Prior to LSU, Diarse was named the 4A Offensive MVP by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2013.

A sophomore infielder from Lake Charles, La., Foster blasted a two-run homer during the Tigers’ 11-7 win against Jackson State in the first game of NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. He’s competed in 40 games this season with 15 starts. He started in right field and added a RBI single during LSU’s 11-1 win over Oklahoma to clinch a spot at the College World Series. For the season, Foster has a .359 batting average to go along with two dingers and 12 RBIs.

Ranzy, a sophomore all-around gymnast from Chesapeake, Va., posted a career high 9.85 on bars in the Semifinal I round of the NCAA Championships, assisting the team in achieving its third ever trip to the Super Six. She also marked a career-best 9.875 on vault in LSU’s third place finish at the SEC Championship. Ranzy continues to make an impact on the program after transferring from Oregon State and redshirting during the 2012 season.

A junior wide receiver from Slidell, La., Williams saw action against Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl and was awarded the 2013 Alvin Roy Fourth Quarter Award following his performance in spring practices. Williams also plays his part in the community, as he visited students of the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired hosted at the Delta Gamma House. He earned CCACSA Student-Athlete of the Month honors in January 2011.

Yocom, a senior infielder from Reno, Nev., led the Tigers offensively in the final regular season game of the season against Ole Miss, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. He competed in 23 games this season with four starts. Yocom also posted 2012 SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades.

For putting forth extra effort in the classroom and community in addition to their rigorous academic and competition schedules, these six student-athletes will have their pictures displayed on the wall in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
