LUBBOCK, Texas – LSU freshman shortstop Alex Bregman has been named to the 14-player watch list for the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award.
The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas.
Bregman, a product of Albuquerque, N.M., is batting .382 (95-for-249), and he entered this week’s SEC Tournament ranked third in the nation in base hits. Bregman has 16 doubles, seven triples, five homers, 49 RBI, 53 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.
He entered the SEC Tournament No. 1 in the league in base hits, No. 1 in triples, No. 2 in total bases, No. 2 in runs scored, No. 2 in batting average, No. 3 in doubles, No. 4 in slugging percentage, No. 5 in RBI and No. 10 in on-base percentage.
Bregman has been invited to join Team USA this summer for its 33-game international tour, which includes a trip to Japan
