Gymnastics Ranked No. 5 in Attendance

BATON ROUGE – For the first time in school history LSU ranked in the top five nationally in gymnastics attendance figures as the Tigers checked in at No. 5 in the final standings released Monday by GymInfo.

An average of 5,353 fans attended each LSU gymnastics home meet during the 2013 season, shattering the previous record of 3,732 fans in 2009.

All five home meets in 2013 rank among the Top 25 in all-time home attendance figures, including the No. 1 most attended meet in school history when 8,574 fans watched LSU compete against Alabama in the Sixth Annual Etta James Memorial Meet on March 8.

LSU’s home meet against Georgia on March 1 ranks No. 4 on the all-time list as 5,717 fans attended the meet. The contest against Arkansas on Feb. 15 ranks eighth at 4,896, while the meet against Florida on Jan. 11 ranks 15th at 4,074 and the season opener against North Carolina State on Jan. 4 ranks 25th at 3,504.

Season tickets deposits for the 2014 season are currently available by visiting http://lsul.su/14gymtix, and season tickets are expected to cost $25 for adults and $15 for youth (ages 3-12) pending the finalization of the 2014 season schedule.

All eight Southeastern Conference teams appeared in the Top 11 of the attendance standings with Alabama at No. 2 (13,421 fans per meet), Georgia at No. 3 (8,720), Florida at No. 4 (5,865), LSU fifth, Auburn sixth (4,408), Missouri eighth (3,714), Arkansas 10th (3,440) and Kentucky 11th (2,833).

Utah ranked No. 1 with an average of 14,348 fans per home meet.

LSU concluded the 2013 season with a berth in the Super Six for the third time in the last six seasons, and the Tigers earned a fifth-place finish, the second-best finish in school history. Sophomore Rheagan Courville capped one of LSU’s most successful seasons by winning the NCAA vault national title at the NCAA Individual Event Finals on April 21.
