NEW YORK – The LSU women’s basketball team, fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance, has been selected to play in the inaugural Barclays Center Women’s Invitational this coming season, November 29-30, in the new state-of-the-art Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Lady Tigers will join Michigan, Rutgers and Texas Tech in the two-day event Thanksgiving weekend. The complete bracket, matchups and game times will be unveiled at a later date. The remainder of LSU’s 2013-14 schedule will be announced in August.

“This is a great opportunity with tremendous exposure for our program,” said LSU head coach Nikki Caldwell, who enters her third season. “Playing elite teams from power conferences during the non-conference portion of our schedule is something we always like to do. To be able to do that in New York in a venue like the Barclays Center is very exciting for our team and fans.”

Tickets for the Barclays Invitational are now on sale and available through Ticketmaster by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000, or at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group tickets are also available by calling 1-800-GROUP-BK.

The Barclays Women’s Invitational will be played on the same days as the Barclays Men’s Invitational. The groundbreaking $1 billion home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, Barclays Center opened in September 2012 with a capacity of 17,732, making it one of the finest sporting venues in all of America.

LSU will be playing in the city of New York for the first time since defeating St. John’s 63-56 on Nov. 30, 1996. The Lady Tigers were recently ranked No. 16 in an early 2013-14 pre-season poll selected by ESPN.com. LSU returns seven letterwinners, including first-team All-Southeastern Conference and honorable mention All-America forward Theresa Plaisance.

Plaisance will be joined by seniors Jeanne Kenney and Shanece McKinney, while welcoming the return of freshman All-America guard Danielle Ballard. The Lady Tigers also hauled in an elite recruiting class headlined by top-20 high school player Raigyne Moncrief.

New season ticket deposits for the 2013-14 LSU women’s basketball home season are now being accepted online at www.LSUtix.net for a special price of $16.
