Men's Golf Tenth Through Day 2 of SEC's

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Freshman Zach Wright set the pace for the 15th-ranked LSU Tigers with his performance on the second day of competition at the 2013 Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Championships as he carded a team-leading 1-over par 71 during Saturday’s action at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club.

After posting a 5-over 75 in his SEC debut on Friday, Wright climbed 12 spots up the leaderboard with his 1-over 71 on Saturday to finish the afternoon in a tie for 31st place with a 36-hole score of 6-over 146.

The Tigers wrapped up the day in 10th place in the team standings with a two-day team total of 24-over par 584, including their score of 16-over par 296 in the second round.

The 30th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks fired a team score of 4-under par 276 to overcome a four-shot deficit at the start of the round and climb into the lead at 5-under par 555 for the championship. South Carolina leads second-ranked Alabama by three shots as the Crimson Tide posted a tournament-low 5-under par 275 in the second round to finish the day at 2-under par 558 for the weekend.

After taking a four-shot lead over South Carolina in the opening round, the 19th-ranked Auburn Tigers fell into third place overall following Saturday’s action with their team score of 9-over par 289 on the day. Auburn is nine shots off the pace at 4-over 564 after 36 holes, while 21st-ranked Texas A&M follows in fourth place at 6-over 566 and 13th-ranked Georgia rounds out the top five in fifth place at 10-over 570.

Sophomore Curtis Thompson continues to lead the Tigers on the weekend as he followed his 1-under 69 in the first round with a 5-over 75 in the second round to finish the day in a tie for 22nd place at 4-over 144.

Fellow sophomore Stewart Jolly added a 3-over 73 toward LSU’s team score to wrap up his round in a tie for 36th place on the leaderboard at 7-over par 147, while Andrew Presley follows in a tie for 54th place at 10-over par 150 and sophomore Myles Lewis trails in a tie for 64th place at 14-over par 154 after carding back-to-back rounds of 7-over 77.

South Carolina’s Caleb Sturgeon extended his individual lead to four shots on the leaderboard after following a 5-under 65 on Friday with a 3-under 67 on Saturday for a two-day total of 8-under 132.

Sturgeon leads a trio of golfers by four shots as Arkansas’ Sebastian Cappelen, Mississippi State’s Chad Ramey and Alabama’s Cory Whitsett follow in a tie for second place overall at 4-under par 136. Three other golfers are eight shots off the pace in a tie for fifth place as Texas A&M’s Drew Evans, Auburn’s Michael Hebert and South Carolina’s Matthew NeSmith finished the day at 1-under 139.

LSU is paired with Florida and Tennessee in Sunday’s final round and will tee off from the back nine beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT. Golfstat will provide live scoring of the event at www.golfstat.com.
