GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 33 LSU men’s tennis team (8-7, 2-4 SEC) is on the road this Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m. CT to face off against No. 20 Florida (9-7, 3-3 SEC) in Gainesville, Fla., at the Ring Tennis Complex.
“Florida is a good team that has had some good results lately,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “It will take a strong performance like we’ve had these last couple of weeks to get what we need out of there.”
The Tigers are coming off a big weekend after taking down then-No. 7 Ole Miss (12-5, 5-3 SEC) in a dramatic 4-3 victory in Baton Rouge Friday night, and followed that performance up with a 7-0 sweep over Nicholls State at the Dub on Sunday afternoon.
The Gators started off the 2013 season by winning their first eight matches before they dropped six of their next seven. Florida is coming off a 4-0 loss to Auburn this past Sunday, March 24. The Gators, however, are 6-1 at home.
This match will be the first one all season where the Tigers have had a ranked singles player. Sophomore Chris Simpson enters the match ranked No. 82. Florida has three ranked singles players, including No. 102 Florent Diep, No. 117 Bob van Overbeek, and No. 125 Stephane Piro.
LSU’s Simpson is also ranked in a doubles pair at No. 43 with Stefan Szacinski. Florida has one ranked doubles pair with No. 53 Billy Federhofer and Gordon Watson.
Following the match, the Tigers are on the road again to face No. 25 South Carolina (13-7, 3-3 SEC) in Columbia, S.C., on Sunday, March 31.
