BATON ROUGE – Kaitlin Burns, a senior on the LSU women’s tennis team, was selected for one of 10 spots for the 2013 Nike summer internship held in Beaverton, Ore.
In October, juniors and seniors who were interested in the Nike internship were required to attend an on-campus conference with Nike representatives.
“Getting the Nike internship really means a lot to me,” Burns said. “It's such a great opportunity in a field that I'm very passionate about, and I can't wait to go to Beaverton this summer.”
To qualify for the internship, the student-athletes, team managers and athletic department interns had to be juniors or seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA and complete the Fall Campus Attack Project. Candidates were selected based on their applications, resume, project and interviews. Burns was selected to work on the product creation socks team for Nike.
“I'm really excited that Kaitlin has been selected for such a prestigious internship with Nike,” LSU women’s tennis head coach Julia S. Sell said. “Kaitlin is an extremely hard worker, and I have no doubt that she will do a great job.”
Burns is the second LSU student-athlete in recent years to garner a summer internship with Nike. In 2011, Rachel Laurent of the LSU Track and Field program served as the central marketing intern for Nike in Dallas.
