BATON ROUGE, La. - The LSU baseball team will play host to a Prostate Cancer Awareness game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the second-ranked Tigers take on Nicholls State in Alex Box Stadium.

The theme of the night is "Stay Ahead of the Count and Get Checked!" to encourage men to have prostate exams that allow for early detection of cancer.

The Tigers will be wearing light blue batting helmets in support of the cause, and the first 1,500 fans will receive a Prostate Cancer Awareness t-shirt.

Volunteers will be stationed on the concourse of Alex Box Stadium to provide fans with information regarding the disease and how to protect themselves.

"This is a very serious disease the afflicts nearly 250,000 men in the U.S. every year," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "It's an issue that has affected me personally, because my dad is a prostate cancer survivor. Hopefully, we can promote awareness of the importance of getting checked and receiving treatment."
