NASHVILLE - The No. 39 LSU men's tennis team (5-2) will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to open conference play against No. 25 Vanderbilt (9-3) on Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m. CT at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Center.
"Vanderbilt is a strong team and they have had extreme early success this season," head coach Jeff Brown said. "We're looking forward to the start of SEC play and we're ready for the challenge."
The Tigers are coming off a 1-1 weekend after their double-header in Columbus, Ohio. LSU fell to No. 7 Ohio State 7-0 and defeated Wright State 6-1. Vanderbilt is currently riding a four-match win streak and has won eight of their last nine matches.
LSU went 5-6 last season in SEC play and the competition is just as arduous this year. Seven SEC teams are currently ranked in the Top 25, four of which are in the Top 10.
The Tigers are 45-16-1 all-time when facing the Commodores. LSU and Vanderbilt met last year in Baton Rouge where the Tigers overpowered the Commodores 6-1.
LSU is led in doubles by the No. 41 duo of Chris Simpson and Stefan Szacinski. Vanderbilt does not have a ranked doubles team, but they are led in singles by No. 25 Ryan Lipman and No. 41 Gonzales Austin.
