BATON ROUGE - The No. 25 LSU (1-0) men's tennis team will be in Starkville, Miss., this weekend for the ITA Kick-Off Classic hosted by No. 11 Mississippi State (2-0). The other matchup in Starkville will be No. 21 Auburn (3-0) vs. No. 23 Indiana (1-2).
"The ITA Kick-Off gives teams a good focal point early in the season," head coach Jeff Brown said. "We take a lot away from this event every year."
This is the fifth annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend, and sixty schools will be competing across the country. At each site, the home team will play host to three visiting schools in a four-team tournament. The winners of these matchups will come back the following day to play for a berth at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship in Seattle, Wash., for February 15-18.
Mississippi State is led in singles by No. 25 Romain Bogaerts and No. 81 Malte Stropp. In doubles, the Bulldogs are led by No. 28 Jordan Angus and Stropp and by No. 42 James Chaudry and Stefan Vinti. The Tigers will be led by the No. 33 duo of Chris Simpson and Stefan Szacinski.
"Mississippi State is a good team that has gotten off to a good start," Brown said. "This is a great barometer of where we are at this point."
