Geyer, Dasinger Volunteer at Local School
Geyer and Dasinger volunteered as part of Highland Elementary School's "Parents on a Mission" campaign. The program aims to invite men from various organizations and capacities to sit down with the students in an informal setting and have breakfast. The visits greatly impact the students, as many of them do not have positive male role models in their lives.
"My dad was always very influential in my life, so it was great filling in as a 'dad' in the community," Dasinger said. "I think it's really important for young males to have someone to look up to, and I'm glad that I got the opportunity to be involved with this event."
The event began in school's auditorium for a male empowerment session sponsored by the "100 Black Men of Baton Rouge." After the initial gathering, the men walked to classrooms for a brief math activity with students, followed by breakfast.
"I know that Timmy has been involved with a great deal of mentoring through out his time here, and I was honored for Timmy to ask me to come and enjoy this experience," Geyer said. "It is always about giving back here. As far as athletes and even staff, we're given so much from the University and the community. It is only right that we give back."
