TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three different LSU gymnasts captured event titles, but it was not enough as the fifth-ranked Tigers fell 196.575-195.525 at No. 6 Alabama Friday night in Coleman Coliseum.
LSU (2-1, 1-1 SEC) posted a season-high 49.350 on vault to go along with a 49.125 on floor, 48.650 on beam and 48.400 on bars.
Alabama (2-0, 2-0) earned a 49.450 on vault, 49.325 on bars, 49.050 on beam and 48.750 on floor to pick up the win.
"We can't make these kinds of mistakes at this level," LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. "We were timid, and I thought we were a little tired tonight. We had some bright spots in the meet, but we were certainly disappointed in the overall performance of the team."
LSU opened the meet on bars, and Morrison led the way with a career-high tying 9.925 in the anchor spot to win the event title, her second straight bars performance with at least a 9.9. Freshman Jessica Savona made her first appearance in the bars lineup, and she earned a 9.75. The Tigers also counted a 9.75 from Jessie Jordan, a 9.70 from Lloimincia Hall and a 9.275 from Randii Wyrick.
In the second rotation LSU posted a season-high 49.350 on vault. Savona earned a career-best 9.875, and Kaleigh Dickson tied her career high with a 9.875 in the leadoff spot. Courville scored her second straight 9.90, and LSU also counted 9.85's from Maliah Mathis and Morrison.
LSU tallied a 49.125 on floor in the third rotation. Dickson led off with a 9.75, and Jordan followed with a 9.775. Savona scored a 9.85, and Mathis recorded a 9.725. Courville earned a 9.85, and Hall anchored with a 9.90 while the crowd roared for her great performance.
Courville's 9.90 led the way on beam, and Jordan anchored with a 9.85. Ericka Garcia led off with a 9.80, and Hall tallied a 9.775. LSU also counted a 9.325 from Savona.
Morrison's bars title is the 11th of her career, while Hall's floor title is the ninth of her career and Courville's beam title is the fourth of her career.
LSU will travel to Fort Worth, Texas next week for the Metroplex Challenge featuring No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 8 Georgia, No. 23 Oregon State and Washington. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. CT on Jan. 26, and live audio will be available free of charge in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net/live.
