BATON ROUGE - LSU Athletics partnered with Jeff Janssen of the Janssen Sports Leadership Center and held an Emerging Leaders and Veteran Leaders retreat for its student-athletes.

Janssen Sports Leadership Center develops college and high school student-athletes and coaches into world-class leaders who are committed to a lifetime of service, success and significance.

The Emerging Leaders and Veteran Leaders retreat provided student-athletes with the leadership skills, strategies and insights needed to succeed on the playing field, in the classroom, on campus and in the community. The student-athlete leaders learned how to tackle the tough issues of being a responsible and respected team leader.

There were approximately 60 student-athletes who participated in the Emerging Leaders session and 70 student-athletes who participated in the Veteran Leaders session.

"I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Jeff speak," soccer's Megan Kinneman said. "I thought that the workshop was not only informative but also entertaining. He allowed us to interact with athletes from other sports and share our leadership experiences, which I felt was very beneficial."

"Interacting with leaders from different teams was a fun way to meet each other, and hear about all the different ways they are leaders for their teams," men's golf Smylie Kaufman said.
