BATON ROUGE - The LSU softball team returned from winter break and gathered for its first official team practices over the weekend at Tiger Park.
"The first day of practice is always so exciting," head coach Beth Torina said. "It's great to get everyone back together and get back to work. Several of the players were extremely well prepared for today, and I hope there are big things in store for this group in 2013."
The Tigers got in a pair of workouts on both Saturday and Sunday before going to watch the LSU women's basketball team pick up a 62-42 victory over Mississippi State.
LSU balanced its practices between working on fundamentals in the batting cages and defensive situations on the field.
LSU will welcome seven newcomers into the fold sparked by Bianka Bell and Ashley Czechner. Bell is the reigning Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, while Czechner pitched Chattanooga State to the 2012 NJCAA National Championship.
The Tigers open the 2013 season and plays host to the Tiger Classic from February 8-10. The Tigers will welcome Hampton, North Carolina, Purdue and Tulsa as part of the three-day tournament at Tiger Park.
Season tickets can be purchased for $75 at www.LSUtix.net for a marquee home schedule that features 15 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament participants. The Tigers also will welcome defending national champion Alabama along with Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina for three-game SEC series.
