BATON ROUGE - Following Tuesday's practice, LSU women's basketball head coach Nikki Caldwell took her Lady Tiger team to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank where they spent an hour packaging food for underprivileged children.
The squad formed an assembly line and packaged over 625 meals from food collected during the Christmas holiday. Since Caldwell's arrival, the Lady Tigers routinely visit the Baton Rouge Food Bank year round and give back to the community.
"We are always very proud to help the food bank in their mission," said junior guard Jeanne Kenney. "Giving back to my hometown is a great thing. Our team is always willing to help others, especially during the holiday season."
In January 2012, LSU women's basketball was named "Organization of the Month" by the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The mission of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is to feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and other community partners.
