BATON ROUGE - As the LSU Track & Field teams prepare to kick off the 2013 indoor season with a trip to Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday to compete in the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener, head coach Dennis Shaver has announced the addition of two new members to the men's team ready to compete this season.

The Tigers are excited to announce the transfer of sophomore hurdler Joshua Thompson from the University of Pittsburgh and the inking of freshman jumper Fitzroy Dunkley to a National Letter of Intent as each are ready to compete for the squad beginning in the 2013 indoor season.

"We're very excited to have these two talented athletes join our men's team as we get ready to start a new season this weekend," Shaver said. "We'll probably bring them along slowly as they adapt to training, but expect them to make a major impact with our team throughout the season."

Thompson joins the program as one of the emerging hurdle prospects in the United States in the wake of a stellar freshman campaign at the University of Pittsburgh in 2012.

As a Panther, Thompson set personal records of 7.79 in the 60-meter hurdles as the Big East bronze medalist during the indoor season and 13.80 in the 110-meter hurdles as an NCAA semifinalist during the outdoor season a year ago. Thompson also led off Pittsburgh's 4x100-meter relay team that took home the Big East title while also running a seasonal-best wind-aided time of 10.54 in the 100-meter dash in 2012.

Thompson earned international experience during the summer while representing the United States during the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships held in Barcelona, Spain.

After earning his spot on Team USA with a silver-medal-winning effort of 13.59 (-1.8) at the USA Junior Championships, Thompson earned a ninth-place finish as a semifinalist in the 110 hurdles at the IAAF World Junior Championships as one of the world's top young talents in the event.

By adding Dunkley to their roster for the 2013 season, the Tigers welcome a talented jumps prospect from Jamaica College who is sure to compete in the high jump, long jump and triple jump this year.

Dunkley set his personal records of 6 feet, 8 inches in a fourth-place finish in the high jump and 49-5 ½ in a third-place finish in the triple jump at the Class 1 level during his senior season at the 2012 Jamaican Boys & Girls Championships a year ago. Dunkley also competed in the boy's triple jump championship at the Penn Relays during each of his last two seasons at Jamaica College.

A 6-foot-4 prospect who is still relatively new to the sport, Dunkley showed tremendous potential through his prep career. He competed primarily in the high jump prior to his senior season before adding the triple jump as a primary event in his final year at Jamaica College. He is now ready to compete in the long jump for the first time as a freshman at LSU along with the high jump and triple jump.
