BATON ROUGE - LSU freshman center Derreyal Youngblood has been named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week after helping lead the Lady Tigers to wins over East Tennessee State and Louisiana Tech, it was announced on Monday.

Youngblood, a native of Harvey, La., saw her most significant action of the season in the two victories. On Thursday, she came off the bench, connecting for five field goals for 13 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes.

In a 77-55 win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday, Youngblood finished one rebound shy of double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-best nine rebounds. She also blocked a season-high four shots in 17 minutes.

Youngblood is averaging 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for the season. LSU continues play against Grambling at 7 p.m. Wednesday before hosting McNeese State at 2 p.m. Friday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
