SAN ANTONIO, Texas - LSU's Madelene Sagstrom closed the fall golf season with a career best round of 4-under par 68 to finish in a tie for fifth in the Alamo Invitational Tuesday at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

Sagstrom had just one bogey in the round to shoot the 68 to finish the 54-holes at 3-under par 213 (73-72-68). The native of Sweden moved up 15 places in the standings after entering the final round of 1-over par 145. She finished the competition just three shots behind Maribel Lopez Porras of Tulane, who shot 3-under 69, to finish at 7-under par 209 (68-72-69).

Sagstrom has had three strong tournaments to close out the fall, following a good performance for her country in the World Amateur Team Championships in Turkey.

Less than a week after returning from Turkey, Sagstrom finished in a tie for 16th place in the NCAA Fall Preview Liz Murphy event at Athens, Ga., shooting rounds of 73-74-72 for a 3-over 219. In the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel at North Carolina, she posted a tie for seventh finish with a 2-over 218 on rounds of 74-72-72.

Now she finishes the fall with a top 5 finish in the Alamo event and should move up from her rank of No. 40 in the country in the Golfstat Cup and 44 in the Golfweek/Sagarin performance rankings.

LSU would finish eighth in the tournament as a team, but posted three consecutive rounds below 300, continuing to show step improvement heading to the spring portion of the schedule.

LSU posted a 5-over 293 on the final day to finish at 881 17 over par (291-297-293). Oklahoma was the wire-to-wire winner at 16-under par 848 (279-284-285), eight shots ahead of Texas A&M at 8-under 856 (289-282-285). UTSA and Tulane tied for third at 1-under 863.

Also on the final round, LSU counted a 1-over 73 from Nadine Dreher, a 74 from Ali Lucas and a 78 from Lindsay Gahm. Dreher finished 30th in the individual competition.

The spring season for the LSU women's golf team begins on Feb. 24 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans. LSU will host its annual LSU Tiger Golf Classic, March 22-24, at the University Club in Baton Rouge.
