WINDERMERE, Fla. - Sophomore standout Curtis Thompson opened with an even-par 72 and junior All-SEC performer Andrew Presley carded a 1-over par 73 to guide the 13th-ranked LSU men's golf team into fifth place in the overall team standings following Sunday's opening round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational being held at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.

The Tigers, who have captured back-to-back second-place finishes at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in each of the last two seasons, posted a team score of 6-over 294 during Sunday's action to finish the day 10 shots off the pace set by California in taking the lead in the opening round.

The No. 1-ranked Golden Bears were the only squad to break par for the afternoon as they fired a 4-under par 284 to finish the day four shots clear of the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns.

The Tigers rounded out the top five of the team leaderboard as they also trailed Illinois in third place at 3-over par 291 and No. 6-ranked New Mexico in fourth place at 5-over par 293 on Sunday.

Thompson set the pace while cracking the Top 10 of the individual leaderboard with his opening round of even-par 72 to finish the day in a nine-way tie for seventh place overall. Thompson, who tied for 40th place in his debut at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational as a freshman a season ago, looks to continue an outstanding 2012 fall season when he tees off in Monday's second round.

Thompson finds himself five shots out of the lead as California's All-American Michael Kim blistered the course at Isleworth to the tune of a 5-under par 67 in the opening round to snatch a narrow one-stroke lead over teammate Michael Weaver and defending champion Jordan Spieth of Texas.

Presley fired a 1-over par 73 for the Tigers to finish the day in a tie for 16th place overall. He also finished in a tie for 16th place on the final leaderboard at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational a year ago.

Also adding to LSU's team effort Sunday were sophomores Stewart Jolly and Myles Lewis as Lewis fired a 2-over 74 to tie for 22nd place and Jolly carded a 3-over 75 to tie for 36th place on the leaderboard after a strong first day of competition. Freshman Zach Wright also posted a 7-over par 79 to wrap up the day in a tie for 66th place overall with two rounds left to play this week.

The Tigers are paired with Alabama and New Mexico in Monday's second round as they will tee off from the front nine beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT. Live scoring of the second and third rounds of the championship will be provided by Golfstat and can be found online at
