BATON ROUGE - Led by back-to-back rounds of 1-over par 73 by junior All-SEC standout Andrew Presley, the 12th-ranked LSU men's golf team finished Saturday's action at the fourth-annual David Toms Intercollegiate in a tie for the lead in the event being held at The University Club.

The Tigers are aiming to win their second-straight tournament championship after posting a 36-hole team score of 21-over par 597 to tie the South Alabama Jaguars for first place in the team standings.

With the University Club playing to a difficult 7,578 yards for the weekend, the Tigers followed a score at 7-over par 295 in the morning round with a 14-over par 302 in the afternoon round to join South Alabama with a six-shot lead over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the race for the team crown.

Presley fired back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 to wrap up Saturday's action just one shot off the pace in a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard at 2-over 146.

South Alabama's Lane Hulse and Mississippi State's Chad Ramey had matching scores of 1-over par 145 to take the 36-hole lead over Presley with Sunday's final round to determine this year's champion.

"It was a little bit of a disappointing day. The golf course was very challenging today, but I don't feel like the level of our play was where it needed to be," said LSU head coach Chuck Winstead. "It looks like it is to be even more challenging tomorrow with the forecast showing strong winds and cooler temperatures in the final round. It's certainly going to make a tough course play even tougher for the field.

"We need to come out and be tough-minded and patient. That will be needed for us to play a tough course on a tough day like we expect tomorrow. We expect a competitive final round."

Sophomore Curtis Thompson and freshman Zach Wright joined Presley in leading LSU's five-man lineup as they finished the day in a tie for 12th place on the leaderboard at 6-over 150 for the championship. After opening with an even-par 72 in the first round, Thompson carded a 6-over 78 in the second round to finish the day at 6-over 150. Wright posted scores of 4-over 76 and 2-over 74 on Saturday.

Rounding out the LSU lineup on Saturday were sophomore standout Stewart Jolly in a tie for 16th place at 7-over par 151 and fellow sophomore Myles Lewis in a tie for 24th place at 11-over par 155.

Junior Smylie Kaufman, who is competing as an individual for the Tigers this weekend, is poised to claim his first top-10 finish of the 2012 season after shooting a 2-over par 74 in the morning and a 3-over par 75 in the afternoon to wrap up the day in a tie for 10th place overall at 5-over 149.

Three other Tigers are playing as individuals this weekend as junior Landon Lyons finished the afternoon in a tie for 33rd place at 15-over 159, freshman Chuck Spears finished the day in 44th place at 20-over 164 and freshman John Jonas wrapped up the day in a tie for 48th place at 22-over 166.

The Tigers are paired with South Alabama and Louisiana Tech in Sunday's final round and will tee off on holes Nos. 1-5 on the front nine with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m. CT.
