Gahm, Sagstrom Lead Lady Tigers Golfers

ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Lindsay Gahm and sophomore Madelene Sagstrom had strong back nines to shoot 1-over 73s for the LSU Lady Tiger golf team in the first round of the Liz Murphey NCAA Fall Preview Friday at the University Golf Course.

Gahm and Sagstrom are both tied for 14th in the Preview event on the site of the 2013 NCAA Women's Championships next May. Erynne Lee of UCLA posted the best score of the first round at 4-under 68.
 
Both Gahm and Sagstrom improved their round over the final nine holes, especially Sagstrom, who opened the tournament double-bogey, par, double-bogey. Sagstrom birdied the par-fourth sixth hole and then birdied the par-3 16th and par-5 17th to shoot 34 on the back nine to get in at +1 73.

Gahm bogeyed two holes on the front side and came back with a birdie of her one on the 16th hole to also finish at 73.

As a team, the Lady Tigers posted a 17-over 305, tied for 16th in the 18-team field, counting a 7-over 79 from Nadine Dreher and an 8-over 80 from Katrina Hegge.

Auburn is the tournament leader at 1-under 287, the only team to break par on the opening day, with UCLA second at 294 and Southern Cal and Denver tied for third at 7-over 295.
