Skupski Knocks Off Defending US Open Champs

NEW YORK - Former LSU men's tennis All-American Ken Skupski and doubles partner Jamie Delgado pulled off an upset win against 10th-seeded and defending US Open champions Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner in the second round Saturday.

Skupski and Delgado fought off the defending champions to win in two tight sets 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7) on court 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

With the win Skupski and Delgado advance to the Round of 16 where they will face sixth-seeded Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez on Monday.

Skupski has now reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career. His previous best was second round appearances at Wimbledon (2010, 2012), the Australian Open (2010) and the French Open (2010).
