Football Set to Take Stage at SEC Media Days
Assoc. Athletic Director/Communications
HOOVER, Ala. - LSU takes its turn at the podium on Wednesday as the reigning Southeastern Conference Champions will be peppered with questions from a record crowd of over 1,100 reporters here at 2012 SEC Media Days at the Wynfrey Hotel.
LSU head coach Les Miles will be making his eighth trip to SEC Media Days and he will be joined by junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger, junior safety Eric Reid and sophomore wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Mettenberger takes over as LSU's starter this year after playing in five games last year as a sophomore.
Reid, a first-team preseason All-SEC pick, tied with Tyrann Mathieu for team-high honors in tackles a year ago with 76 as he helped lead a Tiger defense that ranked in the top five in the nation in four categories. Beckham Jr. assumes the role of being LSU's primary receiver in 2012 after ranking second on the team in both receptions (41) and yards (475) as a true freshman last year.
Miles and the Tigers are coming off the best regular season in school history, going 13-0 for the first time ever and claiming the SEC title with a 42-10 win over Georgia in the title game. LSU went 8-0 in league play for the first time in school history and spent a school-record 11 straight weeks ranked No. 1 in the nation. LSU ended the year ranked No. 2 in the country following its loss to Alabama in the BCS Championship Game in New Orleans.
LSU returns 15 starters (6 offense, 6 defense, 3 specialty) and 41 letterwinners from last year's squad.
The SEC Digital Network will provide a live steam throughout the day as fans can logon to http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/SECSPORTS/md12.aspx to watch Miles and the three LSU players as they meet the media. The SEC Digital Network will stream Miles from 2:20 to 2:30 p.m. CT, followed by Mettenberger from 2:30 to 2:40, Reid from 3 to 3:10, and Beckham Jr. from 4 to 4:10.
In addition, ESPNU will carry Miles' press conference with the print media in its entirety from 3:30 to 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday. Miles is also scheduled to make an appearance on the ESPN DirecTV bus upon his arrival at the Wynfrey.
LSU reports to camp exactly two weeks from tomorrow on Aug. 1 with the first practice scheduled for Aug. 2. The Tigers open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 against North Texas at 6 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
