BATON ROUGE - All 20 of LSU's varsity sports performed well in the annual report of Academic Progress Rates (APR) released Wednesday by the NCAA.  The ratings released this week by the NCAA are part of the NCAA's continuing academic reform efforts.

The APR is a point system based on scholarship athletes' eligibility and retention for a pre-determined time period.  This year's report is for the four-year period beginning in the fall of 2007. Points are awarded each semester for academic eligibility and retention, with two points possible per semester per student-athlete.

NCAA sports falling below the established cutoff point of 900 are subject to penalties including scholarship reductions and a perfect APR score is 1000.  All LSU teams scored above 900 and 11 LSU teams scored 980 or above, including women's cross country with a perfect score of 1000.

"The APR it is an important tool in the measurement of academic performance in college athletics, so these results are significant because they show the emphasis LSU coaches, student-athletes and counselors put on academic progress and achievement," said LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics Joe Alleva.  "We emphasize to our student-athletes that it is important to be successful in the academic arena as well as the athletic arena."

In addition to women's cross country, other LSU teams with APR scores of 980 or above were men's golf (994), women's golf (993), volleyball (990), baseball (987), women's indoor track & field (984), women's outdoor track & field (984), women's tennis (984), gymnastics (981), men's swimming & diving (983) and women's swimming & diving (980).

Women's cross country posted the highest APR score in the SEC in its sport while women's indoor track & field and baseball finished second in the SEC in their respective sports.
